Flower shops will run out of roses on February 14th as people purchase the long stemmed beauties to show their love for one another on Valentine’s Day, but what about leaving a lasting legacy instead? It might sound unromantic, but why not do something out of the ordinary and think out of the box this year? February being the month of love, it’s the perfect time to think about that lasts a little longer than a few days in a vase.
The other day my Valentine asked me what I’d like this year and I thought about the idea of insurance for a few minutes. I’ve already got a Critical Illness Policy and a Universal Whole Life Policy but there are other things we haven’t talked about with our AC Financial Adviser yet. February is the month of love and making sure that we’re both covered, or that our children and grandchildren have what they need is also a good idea.
Something to consider is not just that insurance policies are there when we need them as a death benefit, but they are also affordable ways to invest for retirement, education and other expenses. I have a grandson who is just starting preschool and a life insurance policy for him would be an inexpensive investment for me. If I purchase a policy for him now, by the time he is college aged, he will have the cash value he needs to get started on his education.
His dad is one of those guys who doesn’t like to think about insurance or saving right now either. He’s too busy thinking about just putting food on the table, finishing his education and all the other stuff single dads do, so a term life policy for him would be helpful, and inexpensive, too. I don’t like to think about anything happening to my kids, but I’ve seen too often what happens when people close their eyes to the possibilities. If something were to happen to my son, my grandson would have what he needs.
